Thoughts on the weight of a spoken word

While surfing around wordpress using wordpress’ tag-surfing functionality I stumbled upon a quite interesting thought.

In short it defines a function W as:

W=X/n

with
W = weight of words
X = influence
n = number of words

The idea is that people that have a certain influence (due to experience, social position, knowledge, power, etc.) have a higher weight of words, but that this weight of words is also influenced by how chatty you are. You may all have come across this situation that people who only talk a little are more often listened to, than people that talk a lot.

Though this is a generally known rule of thumb I enjoy this way of formulating it as a mathematical function – to me, it somehow kicks in more, than just the rule of thumb.

So, my realization of the day is: talk lass 🙂
