No good ever comes from the Internet

“I’m a guy who doesn’t see anything good having come from the Internet, period!” (Sony Pictures Entertainment CEO Michael Lynton)

Hm… what about the sharing of Knowledge, that in it’s final stages led to such great inventions as Linux, Firefox, Apache, Eclipse, etc? And waht about file formats, like GIF, FLAC, Ogg, PNG, SVG, Matroska, ELF, XHTML, etc. that wouldn’t be thinkable without Internet and that are techniques and that everybody comes across in some way or other! What about enlightenment, what about open, free speech, what about the possibility of getting independant news?

Oh, wait a minute. You meen “making lots of money”, when you say “anything good”, ain’t ya? Well, then… no, sorry. Of course with the exceptions of e.g. multi-millionairs like Facebook, Google, YouTube, Twitter, Groupon, Dropbox, gwallet, wordpress, deviantArt, foursquare etc. – all of them being Businesses that came up with the Internet.

But then again, maybe you should all back off again. The Internet is an invention by universities, for interconnecting knowledge – not by profit greedy capitalists!
